Freud is so widely disliked (particularly by women) because he was so widely correct about human nature and unafraid to speak his mind. The sad truth is that we currently live in a world where whistle-blowers and people who speak the truth are all too often ridiculed and even reviled.

This individual was addicted to chloral hydrate (HIGHLY ADDICTIVE) and morphine (ditto), both of which she was given like candy for her asinine behavior. God knows what else, Freud himself took enough cocaine to kill a horse. Ether was a big problem then too (TS Eliot's wife Vivienne was addict). When Hunter S. Thompson is cataloguing the drugs in FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS it's not the pills or LSD or grass that scares him, it's the ether he's most concerned about. May I point out that before Ecstasy became a SCHEDULE 1 drug with the Drug Enforcement Agency in the U.S. it was used by marriage therapists in California whole doled it out to patients under the name of EMPATHY. Thank you clinicians! Appreciate that one! Now virtually half the kids in the US are drugged for "disorders." This mania began with ANNA O and others under the name of "science."

6:05 But previously you said 5-6 groups is ideal for a variable used as random effect. But if you also say participants are used as random effect, isn't usually 100s of participants in a study? Doesn't that mean hundreds of groups in the random effect variable (participant ID)?

My son had what seemed like an Oedipus complex but it wasen't because at 5 he wanted to sleep with me but because the monsters came out of his closet at night and scared him. He knew when my husband was out of town he could sleep safe in my bed but when my husband came back from a business trip he couldn't as my husband and I after being away from each other for many days naturally wanted to have a great deal of intimacy. Thus when my husband came home from a trip he would push the door close and say "Leave, I'm sleeping with Mommy". Rather than this being sexual he explained the monsters did not follow him to my room. His sister who was 4 years older than agreed to allow him to sleep with her and he felt safe there until when he was about 8 he outgrew all fear of monsters.

Thanks for the excellent explanation. May I ask why you used the "SUM" for an ordinal data scale scored at the 7-point Likert scale instead of the average/ mean? and also you used "average" for the other ordinal scale variables? if the sum method is better, what would be the procedure if I have 3 main variables with different number of dimensions, e.g. IV: measured by 6 dimensions*3 items each, DV: 4 dimensions*3 items, and MD: 6 dimensions*1 item.

Reminds me a bit about the old David Lean movie Summertime, about a middle aged American woman, unmarried and played by Katherine Hepburn, who visits Venice on vacation and has a bit of culture shock when the Venice of her imagination is challenged by the actual Venice of its residents, who are more or less like people anywhere in most ways, just different culturally, and she has a bit of a hard time adjusting. But eventually she does, of course, and loves it. It's actually the basic plot of way too many "fish out of water" movies and TV series, from Emily in Paris to Under the Tuscan Sun, and a staple of light rom-coms one might watch when you don't want to watch anything too heavy. I just saw one about a young but not too young American woman who travels to Vietnam after a breakup and has a bit of a culture shock. Of course, as ALWAYS happens in these things, she meets a local and falls in love, but not before various complications ensue. Anyway, everyone has culture shock to one extent or another when venturing too far from familiar surroundings for the first time, whether it's the next block over when you'd a kid to another part of the country when you're a bit older to on the other side of the world. People and cultures are different in certain ways and it's always a bit of an adjustment. My view is that if you didn't experience culture shock then you didn't really experience anything real and were on a canned vacation.

As a British guy who was laying over in Paris for one night, as I arrived at the Charles de guale airport, I was immediately harassed by a guy asking me where I'm going and if I want to get in an Uber with him. After he finally went away and I found a taxi to take me to my overnight hotel, he tried to charge me 60 euro for a 10 minute ride. I just handed him 20 and told him that's all I'll give him since 60 is ridiculous. After I got to the hotel I asked the receptionist in broken French that I have a reservation and she was snarking at me like I was a cockroach, she finally gave me my key and sent me to the room. Then the lift was broken and my room was on the 9th floor so I wasn't taking the stairs. So I went back to the reception to ask about the lift and apparently you need to use a key card (that she never gave me) to operate the lift. >.> The breakfast in the hotel was nice though. Honestly I kinda got depressed after 1 night and would never go there again... and I'm a westerner. 😂 Must be hellish if you are coming from somewhere as sophisticated as Japan.
